Multifamily Inspection Program

The goal of the Multi-Family Inspection Program is to ensure that all multi-family properties adhere to the property maintenance laws and the minimum housing codes of the City of Garland in order to decrease the likelihood of life-safety hazards, to eliminate nuisance conditions for the protection of public health and to enhance community vitality. More information about the program includes:

• Annual inspection using risk-based inspection methodology is required
• Annual permit of $13 per unit is required
• Late fees and surcharges will apply
• There are 227 permitted complexes with a total of more than 20,000 units
• A total of 3 inspectors are assigned to this program
• There is an annual multi-family managers meeting in October of each year

Lodging Establishments Inspection Program

The goal of the Lodging Establishment Inspection Program is to ensure that all hotels and motels adhere to the property maintenance laws and the minimum housing codes of the City of Garland in order to decrease the likelihood of life-safety hazards, to eliminate nuisance conditions for the protection of public health and to enhance community vitality. More information about the program includes:

• Annual inspection using Risk-based inspection methodology is required
• Annual permit of $200 per establishment is required
• Late fees and surcharges will apply
• There are 21 permitted hotels and motels with a total of 1,448 guest room
• The multi-family inspectors are assigned for lodging inspections as well
• There is an annual lodging managers meeting in October of each year
